Healthy kidneys keep protein in your blood, where it belongs. Protein leaking into your urine — often found on a routine test, or noticed as foamy urine — is an early warning that your kidney filters are under strain. Finding the cause early is one of the best chances to protect your kidneys, because treatment works best before damage builds up.
Electrolytes are minerals in your blood — sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and others. Your kidneys keep them balanced. When a lab test shows one is too high or too low, it can cause weakness, confusion, cramps, or heart rhythm problems. We find out why the balance is off and fix the cause, not just the number.
Glomeruli (glow-MARE-you-lie) are the millions of tiny filters inside your kidneys. Some illnesses inflame or scar these filters — doctors call this glomerulonephritis. Signs include blood or protein in the urine and swelling in the legs or around the eyes. These conditions need specialist testing and, often, medicines that calm the immune system.
PKD is an inherited condition where fluid-filled sacs called cysts grow in the kidneys over many years. It runs in families. With regular monitoring, blood pressure control, and newer medicines that can slow cyst growth, many people with PKD keep working kidneys much longer than earlier generations did.
