CKD Management
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) means your kidneys are slowly losing their ability to filter your blood. The most important thing to know: the right care can slow it down, often for many years.
At each visit we track your kidney numbers, adjust your medicines, and protect your kidneys from things that hurt them — like uncontrolled blood pressure, uncontrolled blood sugar, and certain pain pills. We also help with food choices, so you don't have to guess what's safe to eat.
You'll always know your stage, your trend, and your plan. Read our plain-language CKD guide.
Hypertension Clinic
High blood pressure is the second-biggest cause of kidney failure — and kidney problems can also push blood pressure up. That loop is our specialty.
If your blood pressure stays high even on three or more medicines, that's called resistant hypertension, and it deserves a specialist's eye. We look for hidden causes, check that your medicines work well together, and build a plan you can actually live with.
Bring your home blood pressure log if you keep one — it tells us more than any single office reading. Learn more about high blood pressure.
Dialysis Planning & Education
Hearing the word "dialysis" is scary. Planning for it early makes it far less so — and some patients who plan early can delay it or avoid a crisis start entirely.
We explain the choices in plain words: treatment at a center, treatment at home, and what each one means for your week, your travel, and your family. There is no pressure and no one-size-fits-all answer.
If dialysis is in your future, planning ahead also protects the veins in your arm, so you can avoid an emergency catheter. That one step alone can prevent hospital stays.
Kidney Stone Prevention
If you've passed one kidney stone, you have about a 50/50 chance of another within ten years — unless you find out why they form.
We test your blood and urine to learn what your stones are made of and what's driving them. Then we build a prevention plan: what to drink, what to eat more of, what to cut back on, and — when needed — a daily medicine.
Most stone prevention is surprisingly doable. Read our kidney stone guide.
Anemia Management in CKD
Tired all the time? Kidneys make a hormone that tells your body to build red blood cells. When kidneys weaken, that signal fades, and anemia — a low red blood cell count — can follow.
We check your iron and blood counts, and treat what we find: iron by mouth or through a vein, and medicines that help your body make red blood cells when they're needed.
Treating anemia doesn't just improve lab numbers. Most patients simply feel better — more energy, less breathlessness, clearer days.
Transplant Referral & Evaluation
A kidney transplant is the best treatment for many people with advanced kidney disease — and you don't have to be on dialysis to get on the list. Earlier referral means earlier eligibility.
We handle the referral to the transplant centers, prepare the records they need, and get you ready for their evaluation. We also talk honestly about living donors, wait times, and what life after transplant looks like.
After a transplant, we work alongside the transplant center to care for you close to home.
Telehealth Visits
Some visits don't need a drive. With a telehealth visit, you meet with Dr. Lal by video from your phone, tablet, or computer.
Telehealth works well for follow-ups, lab reviews, medicine adjustments, and blood pressure check-ins. Your first visit is usually in person, so we can examine you properly.
Call (903) 841-4454 and ask whether your next visit can be a video visit. We'll walk you through the setup — it's simpler than you think.
